Narni, Albornoz and the Roman remains of Ocricolum
This interesting tour in search of the secrets of Narni and the south-western part of Umbria, is classified as moderately difficult because while it’s not excessively long, there are various ups and downs along the way. Departure is from Rocca Albornoz, an ancient fortress built on Narni’s highest point. We will cycle towards Otricoli and reach our destination after about 15 km of road on the rolling hills in this part of Umbria and visit the archaeological remains of ancient Ocricolum, a Roman city that stood along the Tiber near the port of Olio. Leaving Otricoli and its interesting archaeological remains behind, we will cycle towards Calvi dell’Umbria, but first we’ll have to tackle an uphill stretch that will make our journey more exciting. In Calvi, in addition to stopping for lunch, you’ll be able to admire various works including numerous murals, all depicting the Nativity, which have been painted here since1982 by artists from all over the world. Once we set off again, we will soon find ourselves crossing a dense landscape of thick woods immersed in surreal silence until we reach another characteristic village, Poggio, after which we will head towards Narni again, our starting point. Before you get off your bike, we suggest you have a look around the village and see its artistic beauties without forgetting the exciting and unexpected attractions of Narni’s atmospheric underground tunnels and corridors.
