Lake Piediluco and the Marmore Waterfalls
This fascinating tour, which will lead us in search of some of Umbria’s most important natural attractions, follows a route that is easy and suitable for everyone, from the most experienced cyclists to those who want to spend a quiet day enjoying the beautiful landscapes in this corner of the region. Departure is from Parco i Campacci, in Marmore, near the panoramic viewing point overlooking the impetuous waterfalls. They are165 metres in height and were commissioned by the Roman consul Manio Curio Dentato in 290 BC. From here we will continue cycling along the length of the river Velino until we reach the charming village of Piediluco, which overlooks the lake named after it. Famous for its colourful houses and its inhabitants’ fishing industry, it is ideal for a short relaxing stop to enjoy the tranquillity of the area and the views. The lake also offers numerous opportunities for lovers of sailing, rowing or water skiing. At the end of our break, we will set off again along the lakeside, tackling the slight up and downhill stretches through the Colli sul Velino (hills) which will add a bit of excitement to our pedalling until we will reach the opposite side of the lake with respect to Piediluco. Here we will retrace the route we took on the first part of our journey to return to our starting point at the Campacci park, under the Marmore waterfalls. If you choose to take this tour among the area’s natural beauties in the company of our professional guides, it will be an experience that will stay with you for a very long time.
