Forests and tuff between Orvieto and Città della Pieve
This tour takes us in search of the splendid ‘cities of art’ such as Orvieto and Città della Pieve but also into the Foresta di Meana and to Monte Nibbio, places where peacefulness reigns supreme and where nature is still pristine and unspoilt. Given the length of the route (103 km) and some challenging climbs, this route is not suitable for inexperienced cyclists or enthusiasts with little training. The departure point is Città della Pieve, near the sports field just outside the city. From here we’ll head for Fabro, reachable in about 15 km after a few up and downhill stretches. At the foot of Fabro we will begin the climb up to the village from where we will get a fabulous view of the valley. We will continue with a series of ups and downs until we reach the foot of the pass we have to cross to reach Allerona, a fairly long ascent but with nothing too steep. After the pass, a long downhill trail will lead us to Allerona, a lovely little village nestled in the Selva di Meana woods, and then to Allerona Scalo, after which we will continue towards Orvieto (at this point it will be possible to shorten the trip, skipping the last part to return to the starting point). At the foot of the city – which we thoroughly recommend visiting –, we will cycle in the direction of Orvieto Scalo and from there to Ficulle, facing the uphill trail to Monte Nibbio on the way. After the challenging 9-km ascent, we will be able to enjoy a magnificent view of Monte Cetona and the valley that separates Umbria from Tuscany before plunging down again to go through Ficulle and then Fabro Scalo before starting the 10-km of peaceful plains that will take us to the foot of Città della Pieve. Here a last stretch will take us to the village famous for the works of the artist known as Il Perugino and of Pomarancio. Our guides are waiting to accompany you along this magnificent route, offering you advice and revealing all the secrets of the areas you’ll go through. What are you waiting for? Book now!
