Guided tour of Amelia
A magnificent day contemplating imposing walls, spectacular views and incredible monuments
Surrounded by beautiful and harmonious landscape rich in vegetation and characterised by gently rolling hills, wide valleys, mountains, woods and lakes, you can admire the beautiful and multi-faceted village of Amelia. You will be guided by our professional tour guides, who will help make your visit to the city even more enjoyable.
The tour will begin with the most important and characteristic symbol of Amelia: its imposing and majestic Polygonal Walls, which will immediately take you back to the Roman era. The huge blocks of stone are joined and remain together without the aid of any mortar, truly impressive! In the inner part of the city stand the oldest walls that date back to the pre-Roman era. Once in Via del Duomo, we’ll stop to see the majestic Cattedrale di Santa Fermina, with its baroque style and its two beautiful organs and next to it, the Torre Civica, a tower built with an unusual dodecagonal (12-sided) plan.
The Museo Archeologico has an important collection of historical, artistic and archaeological exhibits from the area and if you go there, you’ll also have the great good fortune to admire the beautiful bronze statue of Drusus Claudius Nerus, the Roman general known with the additional epithet of Germanicus. Inside the museum, don’t miss the wonderful works in the Pinacoteca Edilberto Rosa.
However, Amelia is not only rich in wonderful landscapes and works of art: it also boasts an underground city, with amazing Cisterns, real masterpieces of Roman hydraulic engineering.
