The ring of the ancient Plestini tribe
Trekking tour in Colfiorito, exploring the origins of these peoples and their lands, accompanied by an expert archaeologist.
Archaeology will provide the backdrop for this magnificent trekking tour in the lands of the Plestini, Umbria’s ancient people. The trekking starts from the small town along a comfortable cart track that looks out over Monte Trella, an ancient fortified site, just nearby Colfiorito. The route, with its panoramic views over the colourful karstic plains of the Umbrian-Marche Apennines, then leads to the marshes: via this richly bio-diverse and unique habitat, we will arrive at the castles of Monte Orve and Casicchio, with amazing views over the surrounding plains.
The itinerary is mostly on rough cart roads, with some sections on natural paths (a few parts on medium-high grass). A very short section is on an asphalt road with little traffic. Some portions may be muddy in the case of recent rainfall. Slippery features are rare, and most of the route is in good condition. Elevation gain is medium or medium-low, with only one steeper section (both uphill and downhill). Some sections are exposed to the wind, while the itinerary is almost totally sunny with very few shaded areas. There are no refreshment points along the way, but you’ll find bars and refreshment points both on departure and arrival.
