The Segrets of Altolina

Like hermits and monks, immersed in boundless nature

We will be walking along a stretch of via Plestina and going into the natural park of Altolina. The beauty and diversity of the vegetation and landscapes on this itinerary will take your breath away, as we walk among gorges, waterfalls and ancient grottos up to the Eremo di Santa Maria Giacobbe, a sanctuary that seems to date back to the end of the 13^th century, where you can still admire frescoes of religious scenes. Not much is known about its past, but it seems it was also inhabited by Eastern monks. The name derives from the popular belief that Santa Maria Giacobbe took refuge in a cave in Sasso di Pale, a splendid little village that you’ll see during this walk. Our guide will explain all the little secrets of this route and enable you to engage imaginatively in the history of these beautiful places.
