Choose to explore the beautiful village of Montone, a jewel of medieval art and architecture in the province of Perugia that has been listed among the ‘Cento Borghi più belli d’Italia’ (One hundred most beautiful villages in Italy). Visit the village with of our guides and discover everything about its past, as well as anecdotes and curiosities.
You’ll find yourself beholding mighty city walls and then strolling through the picturesque alleys of the village, affording breath-taking views of the surrounding landscape and fairy-tale-like perspectives of the village’s magical medieval construction.
With its cobbled streets and its fascinating monuments, Montone will take you back in time to a bygone area and infuse you with a reassuring sense of peace and relaxation.
You’ll see the remains of the imposing Rocca di Braccio, which was almost completely destroyed following the papal state’s revenge against the Fortebraccio family. Look out for the keep, a lateral turret that rises next to the ‘Casa di Conte Carlo’, and notice the consistent thickness of the city walls.
We will also visit the Complesso museale di San Francesco in the ‘Chiesa e Convento di San Francesco’ in Montone, which hosts the Pinacoteca (picture gallery) and the Museo Etnografico. There are numerous frescoes by artists such as Bartolomeo Caporali, Luca Signorelli, Antonio Alberti and additional artworks by other famous painters and artists.
