This tour and wine tasting will give you the opportunity to get to know the production processes involved in crafting the great wines of the viticultural area of Montefalco, including the Sagrantino. The tour of the winery, one of the most renowned in the entire Italian wine sector, will begin by exploring the issues connected with the sustainable development of Umbrian viticulture and the great importance represented by the Montefalco area since the 1990s for the promotion of Sagrantino, a fine wine with a unique body and robust tannins that can compete with the great reds of Tuscany or Piedmont. The tasting – following the guided tour of the winery – will be held in the tasting room and start with Grechetto Colli Martani DOC, an outstanding expression of this native vine that expresses all its potential in these areas, with intense aromas and marked persistence. The tasting will continue with a Montefalco Rosso DOC, a wine of considerable structure produced with Sangiovese, Sagrantino and Merlot grapes, which is aged for 12 months in Slavonian oak barrels and for 3 months in the bottle. Finally, Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG, which is this area’s most representative wine. With its formidable structure and tannins, it is highly suited to prolonged cellaring and pairs perfectly with grilled meats and extra mature cheeses. You will also have the opportunity to taste a small selection of typical Umbrian products in combination with the wines as well our region’s ‘green gold’: extra virgin olive oil.
