Get ready for a challenge, among untamed greenery and remote ancient villages

Perched on one of the largest plateaux in central Italy, Castelluccio di Norcia is amongst the most fascinating places in Umbria. Famous throughout the world for its spectacular scenery during the flowering season, this area offers sports enthusiasts numerous exciting pursuits, from parachuting to countless trekking and hiking trails. The biking itinerary we offer, which measures some 40 km, forms a ring that passes right through the village of Castelluccio and runs between the sides and the ridges of the slopes that rise around Pian Grande and Pian Piccolo. Passing over some of the peaks, the route offers panoramic views and soaring glimpses of the Sibillini mountains both from the Umbria and from the Marche side, where the natural mountainous scenery creates a palette of characteristic colours in this part of the Apennines. The route, with an increase in altitude of 1100 metres, is not particularly difficult from a technical point of view but there are significant steep climbs, so it is mostly recommended for those with a good level of fitness and training. This area is just a few kilometres from Norcia, the medieval city that is also famous for certain foodstuffs, above all butchery products. You can therefore combine an enjoyable ride with a tasting of the traditional flavours of Umbria’s cuisine… even your taste buds will thank you!
