Acquasparta and the Roman Ruins of Carsulae

Come with us and discover Roman ruins and ancient forests

This relaxing tour, which is suitable even for the less experienced due to the easy route, starts just outside the historic centre of Acquasparta, a charming town built on the ruins of the ancient Roman settlement of Carsulae, and stretching over the rolling hills in the direction of Avigliano Umbro and Montecastrilli. Along the way we’ll enjoy breath-taking landscapes whilst cycling on the ridges of beautifully-cultivated hills, but we’ll also discover one of the most important paleontological sites in the world, the fossil forest of Dunarobba. At this site of great naturalistic and scientific interest we’ll be able to see the fossilized remains of about 50 three-million-year-old coniferous trees dating back to the Pliocene geological era. After visiting the fossil forest and the village of Dunarobba, we’ll go on to Avigliano Umbro, another pretty village where we can make a short stop before returning to Acquasparta, but not without making the last stop on our tour in Montecastrilli, a splendid medieval town perched on the inside of an imposing boundary wall. Recommended clothing

For this activity we recommend comfortable clothing that does not restrict your freedom of movement.
Bring a windcheater/anorak with you, even if the activity takes place in the summer months.
We recommend wearing the right footwear for the type of bike you are going to use.
We strongly recommend the use of a crash helmet suitable for biking.

– A comfortable backpack suitable for cycling/walking
– A warm sweater, such as a technical sports shir, for sudden drops in temperature
– A change of clothes (especially socks) in case of sudden rain
– Hat with a sun visor
– Warm hat
– Gloves
– Sunscreen.

Mechanical assistance for repairs in case of punctures, problems with brakes or other malfunctions that can be dealt with on the spot.
In most cases a car will be on hand to provide any complex assistance or to keep drinks and food chilled.

Bicycles and related accessories are not included in this itinerary.

If you wish, you can choose bike hire from amongst our additional options. We will provide you with the bike that’s best suited to the type of route, taking your preferences into consideration, including helmets, pedaling accessories and spare parts for ordinary repairs. We have various types of bikes available, including e-bikes.
