The Sparkling Wines of the Umbria
Come and discover two new entries in the Italian sparkling wine sector.
One enters the arena of Umbrian sparkling wines, initially, with some subliminal mistrust: people have been wondering for some time now whether Umbria, a land of fine red wines, is really capable of producing this type of much-sought-after and sophisticated wine. The tasting we propose takes place in one of the most famous wineries in the Torgiano area, a territory historically well-suited to the production of great classic reds. After a tour of the winery, the spargling wines of Umbria tasting begins with a fresh and elegantly complex Brut Millesimato Metodo Classico, obviously produced in compliance with the ‘Metodo Classico’ of sparkling wine production (the same method used to produce Champagne), using Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes from Torgiano’s hillside vineyards. We then continue with a Brut Rosé Metodo Classico, which exhibits a vibrant freshness and an on-going enveloping mouthfeel. It is produced with Pinot Grigio and Sangiovese, the latter being the main grape variety grown in this area. A tasting of a Sangiovese-based wine follows, a primary expression of the Torgiano area, ending with a sweet, soft and fruity wine, which yields a soft cotton feel on the palate. Obviously you will have the opportunity to buy wines or have the flavours of Umbria sent to you wherever you wish, at the company’s wine shop.
