The unique atmosphere of the Umbria-Marche Apennines
From Montone along the ancient mountain range, rich in varied landscapes and small, ancient settlements
This tour, one of the toughest we offer, starts from Montone and leads us on a voyage of discovery of the Umbrian-Marche Apennines through an extraordinarily fascinating territory. Two of the climbs we’ll have to tackle, however, make this itinerary not suitable for those who are not physically very fit and have not had adequate training. The starting point is at Montone stadium, just outside the walls of the beautiful medieval village, and from there we’ll move in the direction of Città di Castello along a beautiful descent with many hairpin bends, after which we get to the small town, cycling for some 17 km on easy, flat land. We will cut through Città di Castello avoiding the centre to swerve the traffic and then begin the long ascent, but with slopes not exceeding 6%, which will take us to the top of the Bocca Serriola pass, which marks the border between Umbria and Marche. In the Marche region, we’ll cycle through the valley of the Biscubio torrent up to Apecchio, after which we’ll turn in the direction of Pietralunga to return to Umbria along the hardest, wildest and most fascinating leg of our journey. The second arduous phase on our itinerary features slopes at intervals in excess of 10%, which require you to be very fit as well as have good gears. After the strenuous climb, we will head down for a lengthy descent that is very tricky and steep in the first kilometre, taking us down near Pietralunga. From there we’ll continue slightly downhill through thick woods to the foot of Montone, our initial starting point. A final, 3-km push on a shady and undemanding slope will take us to its historic centre, which is full of works of art and monuments that are well worth seeing. This biking tour, in the company of our guides and immersed in nature on the trail of a wild and little-known area will be a day to remember. We look forward to seeing you, book now!
